Welcome to a different kind of yoga practice – one that celebrates the strength already within you and harnesses it to create positive change in the world. We believe that true transformation happens when we fully embrace and engage with the world around us, supporting and uplifting our community along the way.
At Heartwood Yoga, every class is an opportunity to deepen your practice and to forge meaningful connections. Our approach combines dynamic movement with purposeful intention, helping you build physical strength while nurturing what truly matters to you. Whether you're an experienced practitioner or stepping onto the mat for the first time, you'll find a supportive community ready to grow alongside you.
At the heart of every tree lies its heartwood - a dense, sturdy core that allows the tree to grow tall and strong while supporting the living layers around it. Like this vital center, Heartwood Yoga embodies the understanding that strength flourishes in connection. Just as a tree's core nourishes both itself and the forest around it, we cultivate individual strength as a foundation for uplifting our entire community. This is yoga that roots down and reaches out – creating a practice as enduring and interconnected as the mighty trees that inspire our name.
Nestled in the heart of Ben Lomond, surrounded by towering redwoods and the peaceful flow of the San Lorenzo River, Heartwood Yoga offers a natural sanctuary for practice and connection. Our studio sits just steps from Ben Lomond's historic downtown, where the Santa Cruz Mountains' serene beauty meets small-town charm. This unique location, about 15 minutes from Santa Cruz, provides the perfect balance of accessibility and retreat-like tranquility.
Fundamental Flow welcomes practitioners of all levels, from those new to vinyasa to experienced students revisiting core principles. This class explores essential foundations while offering opportunities for challenge and growth. Our teachers mindfully adapt to the energy of each unique group, creating an inclusive space where everyone can thrive.
Experience traditional yoga wisdom blended with modern exercise science in Yoga Sculpt. This class mindfully incorporates light weights into foundational poses, bringing new awareness through resistance. Weights remain optional with modifications available. Designed to complement vinyasa practice, Yoga Sculpt helps you discover the harmony between strength and flexibility.
Dynamic Flow is a mindful vinyasa class that builds gradually in complexity. We explore a variety of postures and fluid transitions while honoring your body's wisdom. This practice is ideal for students who are familiar with vinyasa basics and want to discover new possibilities in their yoga journey.
This class invites you to slow down and sink into stillness. In this gentle yet profound practice, poses are held for extended periods, allowing you to release deep tension in joints and connective tissues. Moving beyond the muscular system, Yin helps restore mobility and flexibility while creating space for meditation and inner calm. This class is the perfect way to close the week.
What class should I take?
If it is your first time at the studio, we recommend trying a Fundamental Flow or a Yoga Sculpt class to get a feel for the level of challenge. Our skilled teachers will take care of you in any class you choose!
Is the room heated during class?
The room will be set to a comfortable, warm temperature. We do not offer heated yoga at our studio. That's not to say you won't work up a sweat, so bring a towel just in case.
It's my first time, what should I bring to the studio?
Welcome! Please bring a mat, small hand towel, and water. If you forget any of those items, we have them available in the studio. Arrive 10 minutes early to settle into the space and meet the teacher.
What should I wear?
Wear clothing that is breathable and comfortable to move in.
How do I sign up for a class?
Where do I park?
We are located at 9573 Highway 9, the big green building. There is street parking on Highway 9, and a parking lot for students behind the building on Mill St. Please avoid the marked "tenant parking" spots on the far side of the lot. If you park in the lot, walk up the stairs and follow signs around the side of the building to the front door.
What if I'm late?
We understand, life happens. If you are late, please knock lightly at the front windows and the teacher will let you in. Students will not be permitted late entry to the Yoga Sculpt classes.
The instructors at Heartwood Yoga embody the studio’s philosophy of strength through connection. Just as the heartwood of a tree supports and nourishes its surroundings, our teachers bring deep experience, warmth, and a commitment to fostering growth in every student. Rooted in diverse traditions and mindful movement, they create a welcoming space where practitioners of all levels can explore, strengthen, and expand—both on and off the mat. Whether guiding a grounding flow or an invigorating challenge, our instructors cultivate a practice that is as supportive and enduring as the towering redwoods that surround us.
